The Pickering Ladies’ Golf League, fondly referred to as “Pick Chix”, began in 1963 when Pickering Golf Course was known as Seaton Golf Course. Originally, the ladies’ league was only eligible to full members of the club. As club memberships began to shrink, the league adopted a policy of open membership with reduced annual fees. Hooray!
The league has always been welcoming, combining fun and competitive golf. Lifelong friendships and special memories have been developed over the years. (Ask about “Sam’s tree”.)
The course was closed for 2 seasons in 2011 & 2012 to accommodate a housing development. This caused the course to change from 18 holes to a very interesting and challenging 9 hole course. While the course was closed, many Pick Chix members still hung together, organizing Tuesday morning games at a variety of other courses.
Membership has grown rapidly since that time, welcoming friends and friends of friends, including many curlers. The name “Pick Chix” was adopted and an excellent logo was created. Thank you W.W. The logo has been cleverly used on golf shirts, towels and COVID masks plus two fabulous works of art on the locker room wall.
The committee did a wonderful job running the league safely through the challenges and restrictions of COVID. We look forward to returning to normalcy.
Happy golfing, everyone!
