The Pickering Animal Services provides care for lost and found pets, abandoned and rescued pets, provides adoption services and more. They also provide "pet pantry supplies" to help those in need look after their pets. One of our Pick Chix events is to have a fun day where anyone who wishes to can donate pet food, pet supplies and towels and blankets which are taken to the shelter. We enjoy a fun round of golf and then lunch and prizes. Also to add to the fun a simple animal hat or a full blown animal costume are encouraged.
The Community Food Bank provides food to those in need of support. Pick Chix members can donate food items, enjoy some breakfast items and have a round of golf. There are draw prizes as well.
Carolyn Nixon travels annually to South Africa to assist Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) with projects enhancing the lives of women, mostly grandmothers, and the orphans they are raising due to the HIV/AIDS related deaths of their parents.
Carolyn’s projects include helping the Grandmother Support Groups throughout the vast Valley of 1000 Hills and the creation of the Gogolympics , a celebration of the spirit of the Gogos. (“Gogo” is the Zulu word for “grandmother”.)
This is a self-funded philanthropic project which continues to be a success thanks to the generosity and thoughtfulness of Carolyn’s friends.
Our annual fund-raising golf tournament, The Wayward Hayward, is typically held at the end of the summer.
What a fun event. A must attend, end of summer event.
